NARA
Many people know that Kyoto was the capital of Japan for a long time before Tokyo, but less than one hour away from Kyoto is Nara, which was actually Japan’s first permanent capital before even Kyoto!
The best part of Nara is of course the many deer that wander around Nara Park, many have learnt to bow for treats from visitors to the very impressive Todaiji Temple on the park grounds!
There are other famous cultural spots like Kofukuji Temple and Kasuga Taisha Shrine, but unless you live around here, you probably don’t know that one of Nara’s specialties is goldfish! Not food, but one of the things that Japanese people do at festivals is “goldfish fishing” at our many summer festivals, and many of them are sourced from Nara! I want to take you to Nara’s goldfish museum, and many other hidden spots in Nara!
